I was in a mood to write but had nothing much to say. This piece was just me thinking aloud. These are few of the moments I have experienced. Surely, they are many more but can’t think of them right now and many are too personal to be shared on internet.

Few of the best places (moments) to be in ....

  • First rain after the scorching summers
  • It’s around 2.30 on a summer afternoon. You are on your bike and a water tanker passes by and you feel cool by the spilling water from the water tanker.
  • You are listening to the radio. You are feeling low or may be extremely happy. You so want to listen to a particular song and what a coincidence they play the same song!
  • You are feeling very low, you get that one email from that long lost friend that you haven’t met for years...just wondering how you are doing?
  • After a western dance stage performance (loud music, scantily clad people, abstract movements) of yours, a really old lady in nine-yard sari walks up to you and gives you a Rs.10 note as a token of appreciation.
  • There is a traffic jam on the road, you are struggling to cross the road. On the other side of the road you see a really old couple. They have a nervous, confused smile on their faces. The man lends his finger to the lady and then they cross the road together.
  • You are at a party. You are doing your own thing not bothered about others. You are doing that one unique step of yours. And, all of sudden you realize ten others (strangers) are unknowingly following you.
  • Getting your first byline in the newspaper.
  • Getting an email from a random reader, that he/she read your article couple of months ago and he/she identified with it and wanted to share his/her experience with you.
  • Getting unexpected genuine compliments.
  • Sitting on a secluded beach. Looking at the sun going down. Feeling the breeze, looking on to the sky, which is coloured with a rare combination of orange and blue. Having someone (that you want to be with you at that time) to share this moment with.
  • You have had an exhausting day. You want to switch off from all the hassles. You close the door of your room. Play your favourite song and dance like never before for those 10 minutes.

PS: Feel free to add your experiences to this list. Of course if they are not too personal and you don’t mind sharing them.

Hi Ruju - what a lovely piece. I'm sure it has made all your readers think about good places and moments. Apart from the really important ones of being with family and friends, here are a few of my favourite moments to add (in no particular order):
- watching your team win an important match (football, cricket ...);
- when you travel and your aeroplane touches down safely;
- when the meal you have cooked for eight friends turns out fine and you all share the enjoyment of it;
- when you sing with friends or in a choir and the harmonies make your hair stand on end;
With all good wishes for lots of happy moments to anyone who reads this ... Estrid

Hello Ruju, I really enjoyed reading about your favourite moments too. What a positive collection of thoughts to share with people. Here are some of mine to add to yours and Mum's:

- Waking up and remembering it's Saturday (or any day you don't have to get up early and go to work)
- Coming home and drinking hot chocolate after a walk in the snow
- Receiving a hand-written letter from a good friend
- Waiting impatiently to eat the first slice of home-made cake you've just taken out of the oven
- Unexpected hugs just when you need them
- Seeing the first snowdrops in early spring (at least here in Germany...)
- Enjoying the view from the top of a hill or tower you've just climbed

Life's full of wonderful moments, and I think it's a great idea to stop and really appreciate them from time to time. I hope your list grows longer and longer! With love, Jenny

How about a note from a reader that says you have written a piece really well? Great post Ruju.

Made me stop and think of a few of mine -

- lately, the one mentioned above has been top on my list ;-)
- your kids asking for you as soon as they come back from school
- a smile from a stranger, don't know why, it always feels good, maybe because it is most unexpected
- when the printer works
- spotting a location you have some happy times at, in a movie
- finding long lost notes from friends, clearing the dust and reading them all over
